Effect of Time History on Long-Term Deformation of Gypseous Soils

Abstract The time-dependent behavior of three gypseous soils was investigated. had gypsum content 66%, 44%, and 14.8%. mineralogical chemical properties the were determined. Two series tests performed. In first, collapsibility characteristics investigated for a long period (60 days) by conducting single double oedometer tests. second series, effect relative density on collapse with time samples compacted to 40%, 50%, 60% then tested. results showed that relationship between strain logarithm effective stress has two vertical lines. first one represents settlement taking place within 24 h, while long-term collapse. potential (CP) in both increases when from 14.8% 66% initial void ratio increases. CP–logarithm soaked prepared at different densities under 800 kPa indicated CP increased soil sample increase higher than those 40% 50% density. curves started straight line concave downward curve observed high strain.
